SPEAKER

Marc Sallin
Swiss Post

Marc Sallin has been in software development for more than a decade. He became convinced that high speed, quality, and low costs do not compete but form a symbiosis. To tackle the challenges, he takes the definition of software engineering to heart and applies a systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approach to software development, operation, and maintenance. While fascinated by computer science and technology, he learned the importance of team dynamics and psychology in software development. With his ideas, he has been shaping the future of parcel sorting at Swiss Post as a solution architect for seven years.

View
Aspects of Continuous Deployment – A Multi-Dimensional View
Conference (INTERMEDIATE level)

We look at the topic of Continuous Deployment (CD) from two angles:

The technical view of a software architect and the human view of an agile coach. Using the example of the Swiss Post’s parcel sorting system we share what we have learned. Yes, we consider it a business-critical software, with 10 deployments per day.

In this talk, we show how we build systems that are fast, reliable, and high quality, and explain why success depends so much on how teams experience a culture of trust, collaboration, and shared responsibility for quality. We illustrate how technology and a strong quality culture work hand in hand to make CD successful even in risky environments.

The two perspectives don’t always agree, but that’s what makes it really interesting. 🙂
