SUMMARY:The Promise of Trustworthy AI
DESCRIPTION:Teams building with AI are often presented with a false choice:
share data to get frontier models\, or protect privacy and accept weaker
results. It is a convenient story\, especially for anyone who benefits fro
m accessing your data\, but it is not the full story. This session introduc
es a counterintuitive paradigm where AI models can improve without ever co
llecting your raw data\, and where organizations can collaborate without g
iving up control. By combining Federated Learning\, the idea of training l
ocally while learning globally\, with cryptographic computation on encrypt
ed updates using Homomorphic Encryption\, the result is a system that trea
ts privacy not as a policy or a feature\, but as a structural property by
design.Through practical examples\, this session explores why centralized
training creates hidden constraints like security exposure\, compliance fr
iction\, and data gravity that limit real-world adoption. You will learn h
ow Federated Learning flips the classic “bring data to the code” appro
ach\, and how Fully Homomorphic Encryption closes the final subtle leak: w
hat model updates can reveal\, even when your valuable data never leaves y
our yard.\nSpeakers: César Soto Valero\nTrack: Machine Learning & AI

SUMMARY:From Shadows to Spotlight - How Swiss Post Performs Reliable ML Dep
 loyment
DESCRIPTION:Moving a machine learning model from exploration into productio
n is never a straight path.Academic success often relies on clean datasets
\, controlled environments\, and benchmark metrics—but in the real world
 \, models face data drift\, latency constraints\, integration challenges\,
and the risk of wrong predictions directly impacting customers and busine
ss processes. In this talk\, we share our journey of bringing fraud detecti
on models from research into production at Swiss Post. We highlight the ro
le of the shadow model approach\, where new models run in parallel with pr
oduction systems to safely validate performance on live traffic. You’ll l
earn how shadow testing helps measure robustness\, monitor data drift\, an
d align with business KPIs—without introducing operational risk.Attendee
s will take away concrete practices for bridging the gap between academic
experimentation and real-world operations: how to design safe rollouts\, b

SUMMARY:Social Engineering: Hacking Humans
DESCRIPTION:We put so much effort into securing our systems. We enforce mul
ti-factor authentication. We deploy WAFs. We mandate software updates. We
constantly scan our code. We encrypt our communication and sensitive data.
Researchers ensure that ciphers remain strong. Yet\, we’re still gettin
 g hit. Facebook lost $99 million\, Ubiquiti $39.1 million\, Google $23 mil
 lion\, Toyota $37 million\, the Government of Puerto Rico $2.6 million\, a
nd Belgian Bank Crelan $75.8 million. What is the common denominator in all
these attacks? Social engineering. It is one of the most subtle yet poten
t set of techniques\, often used by individuals or groups to exploit human
weaknesses and gain access to systems and sensitive data. No organization
or group is immune to this form of attack.Working in an IT company places
us in the crossfire. On one hand\, we have access to not only business da
ta but also information that could be exploited to attack our organization
. On the other hand\, IT professionals themselves are well-positioned\, ma
king themselves potential targets of attacks. While it’s almost impossibl
e to be fully protected against social engineering\, it is vital to unders
tand the possible vectors of attack. Various methods and psychological tri
cks can be used to compromise our security or that of our organization.So\
, let’s buckle up and take a small step toward becoming more secure.\nSp

SUMMARY:AI without spaghetti: Clean architecture in the age of AI
DESCRIPTION:Is your shiny new AI feature already tangled in a plate of spag
hetti code\, with helper classes sticking out like rogue meatballs and sur
prise side effects splattering everywhere? In this session\, we follow a s
hort story of a small chatbot named Leo that grows into a full‑blown pla
tform\, showing how careless choices turn neat experiments into costly tra
ps. We then flip the script and refactor the same product into a scalable\
, enterprise-ready architecture using Clean Architecture. Drawing clear li
nes between domain\, application\, and infrastructure so that models can c
hange without breaking everything else. By the end\, you will see that goo
d structure is not a luxury\, but the only way to keep your AI moving fast
without regrets. What we cover- The hidden cost of “just ship it” when
models\, data pipelines\, and prompts keep changing- Where Clean Architec
ture fits in a modern AI stack: domain\, ports\, adapters\, and model gate
ways- Demo: Route simple queries to a local LLM and advanced ones to the c

SUMMARY:Getting more out of Maven
DESCRIPTION:Maven is an ubiquitous build tool in the Java ecosystem\, some
even claim it’s the de facto standard build tool. Configuring Maven is d
eceptively simple\, after all it’s just a matter of writing XML\, isn’
t it? Things look differently when the rubber meets the road. One must kno
 w the intricacies of the build lifecycle\; how plugins\, goals (mojos)\, a
nd phases come together\; rules for dependency resolution\; configuration
inheritance between parent – child POM files\; enhancing the build with
profiles\; and more. That’s a lot to keep track of. Fortunately modern I

SUMMARY:Streams Below the Surface
DESCRIPTION:Java programmers ❤️ streams! They brought us at least some
of the joys of functional programming: code that’s clear and elegant\, a
nd even\, sometimes\, performant. But how do they work? Many people don’
t know\, and that puts them in danger of writing code that seriously under
performs. In this talk we’ll look at the principles and some details of
the implementation\, and we’ll work out some useful principles about how
  – and even whether – to use streams in practice. The talk will be up
to date with the new feature of Gatherers\, revealing the mystery of the g

SUMMARY:Coding a Multi-Agent Game Master with Spring AI
DESCRIPTION:The Game Master (GM) plays a central role in role-playing games
: they create the players’ stories\, embody non-player characters (NPCs)
\, and ensure the rules are followed. AI can be a powerful ally for GMs\,
helping them check rules\, improvise scenarios\, and create content on the

SUMMARY: Profiling Without Pain: Always-On Performance for the JVM
DESCRIPTION:You did all the right things. The latest JVM\, a fancy modern f
ramework (Quarkus\, naturally)\, and domain driven design. And it works -
it’s just slow. At least\, your colleague Ted thinks so - his overly-det
ailed bug reports leave little to the imagination - and the metrics from p
rod certainly don’t lie. You’ve tried everything to make Ted happy aga
in - tweaks in dev\, careful microbenchmarks\, hours lost to the profiler.
You’ve even consulted the hallowed garbage collection tuning guides. An
 d still\, the issue won’t reveal itself. Enter continuous profiling - a
tool enabled in part by the Java Flight Recorder - a way of capturing and
actioning profiling data with low overhead in production\, and correlating
it back to all your important request metadata. In this talk you will lear
n how continuous profiling can help us diagnose and resolve performance is
sues by tying our profiles back to actual traffic\, how it works under the
hood\, and how it differs from traditional profiling. We’ll dive deep i
nto the JFR - the Java subsystem that underpins Java&#39\;s modern profili
ng support - and see how we can use open-source tools to bridge the gap fr
om JFR to production\, always-on profiling. By the end\, you’ll know how
to enable\, interpret\, and operationalise continuous profiling in your o
wn JVM applications - turning “it’s kinda slow sometimes” into somet
hing you can actually action.\nSpeakers: Scott Gerring\nTrack: Backend Dev

SUMMARY:From Fragile to Fearless: Writing Tests That Last
DESCRIPTION:We all know writing tests is important to ensure that our code
behaves as expected. Tests should not only ensure that our new code is cor
rect\, but they should also serve as a means of detecting regression bugs
early. Most of the unit tests I’ve seen in my previous projects is\, howe
ver\, coupled to the technical implementation\, which makes it hard to det
ect regression issues! Bugs are often introduced while refactoring existin
g code. Refactoring should be a task to improve the existing code\, withou
t altering the functionality. If our tests are coupled to the structure of
the code\, we will have to update our tests while refactoring. This change
can cause programming mistakes\, because we don’t have working tests wh
ile completing the refactoring.During this presentation\, I’ll elaborate
on two different styles of writing unit tests. We will explore different
opinions about the definition of a unit\; and we will explore how these op
inions are translated into tests. Very often\, these tests are called soli
tary and sociable unit tests.I will demonstrate the difference with some p
ractical code examples\, which will clarify the pros and cons of the diffe
rent styles of writing tests. But we will also explore the subtle differen
ces between the sociable unit tests and integration tests.Afterwards\, I b
elieve that you will be able to write tests that can survive refactoring t
he code while minimizing the amount of work to keep the tests running!\nSp

SUMMARY:Don’t Panic! A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Keeping the Human Edge in
 a Universe of Instant Output
DESCRIPTION:AI launches us into an era of vibe coding and vibe designing. B
eside the occasional existential eyebrow raise\, we celebrate how much mor
e we can create in so little time. And who doesn’t remember that first m
oment of generating something in seconds and feeling briefly a bit superhu
man? It’s a thrill I once chased when becoming an industrial designer: c
reating a perfect product in as little time as possible. But during my edu
cation\, I learned a truth AI now tempts us to forget: joy doesn’t come
from the output\, but from the journey towards it. Real mastery still live
s in the wonderfully human process of exploring\, experimenting\, and wres
tling with complexity. Tacit knowledge – the intuition that guides us th
 rough outages\, refactors\, and legacy integrations – doesn’t material
ize when we outsource instant output. But when AI generates code and desig
ns in seconds\, in which space can developers still build mental models an
d slip into that rare flow state? This talk is a hitchhiker’s guide for
everyone using AI to accelerate software development: the eager\, the caut

more human: Join a journey that spans developer experience\, design thinki

SUMMARY:Agentic AI Patterns
DESCRIPTION:Developing AI applications today goes beyond simple single-mode
l interactions. We&#39\;re seeing a shift towards agentic AI systems\, whe
re multiple specialized agents work together\, each capable of independent
reasoning. The real challenge for an AI architect lies in orchestrating t
hese agents to collaborate effectively towards a common goal.Given the div
erse and complex tasks these systems handle\, a &quot\;one-size-fits-all&q
uot\; approach to coordination just doesn&#39\;t work. We&#39\;ll explore
the spectrum of agentic patterns\, from reliable but rigid workflows to hi
ghly flexible\, autonomous agent orchestration using LLMs\, and everything
in between.Beyond just sequencing agents\, effective communication is vit
al. Agents need a shared space to exchange results and enrich each other&#
39\;s contexts. This talk will cover:The pros and cons of various agentic p
atterns.Practical demonstrations of how to combine these patterns using La
ngChain4j and its Quarkus extension. How to leverage the provided infrastru
cture for agent collaboration. The flexibility to implement and seamlessly
integrate your own custom agentic patterns.\nSpeakers: Mario Fusco\, Kevin

SUMMARY:Who to blame? The AI\, The Programmer\, or The Prompt?
DESCRIPTION:This interactive session transforms AI security education into
an engaging courtroom-style debate. We&#39\;ll present five critical vulne
rabilities affecting modern AI development tools\, and after each case stu
dy\, the audience becomes the jury—voting on who&#39\;s responsible: the
careless user\, the negligent developer\, or the inadequate service provi
der.We&#39\;ll dissect real CVEs including GitHub Copilot&#39\;s wormable
RCE (CVE-2025-53773)\, MCP server command injections (CVE-2025-53107\, CVE
-2025-5277)\, GitHub&#39\;s private repository leak via prompt injection\,
  and Microsoft Copilot&#39\;s zero-click data exfiltration (CVE-2025-32711
). Each case reveals technical root causes through collaborative analysis.
The conclusion challenges the &quot\;blame game&quot\; itself: these vulne
rabilities expose fundamental architectural weaknesses in agentic AI syste
ms where traditional security models fail. We&#39\;ll establish that secur
ing AI tools demands a shared responsibility framework—developers must c
ode defensively\, providers must architect securely\, and users must under
stand AI-specific risks. The session culminates with actionable best pract
ices for each stakeholder.\nSpeakers: Makan Sepehrifar\nTrack: Security

SUMMARY:Team and Software: Making an Impact as an Architect
DESCRIPTION:Many believe that software architects primarily structure softw

SUMMARY:Database Connection Pool Sizing - Demystified!
DESCRIPTION:This talk addresses a common misconception in Oracle applicatio
n development: that larger connection pools in the backend automatically l
ead to better performance. While this belief is widespread\, experienced D
BAs understand that oversized connection pools can actually harm performan
ce. The presentation provides an introduction to connection pool sizing fo
r backend developers of all seniority levels\, explaining the reasons why
excessively large pools negatively impact system throughput and resource e
fficiency.A key part of the discussion focuses on mathematical principles
behind connection pool behavior\, including Kingman&#39\;s law\, which mod
els queueing delays\, to illustrate how adding more connections can increa
se waiting times rather than reduce them. The talk also covers the mathema
tical foundations for sizing connection pools optimally based on workload
and resource constraints.By the end of the session\, attendees will be equ
ipped with practical formulas and guidelines to calculate the appropriate
size for their connection pools. This knowledge will enable them to guide
application teams towards resizing their pools in a way that maximizes per
formance\, stability\, and efficient resource use\, rather than simply inc
reasing pool size in hopes of improving it.\nSpeakers: Jasmin Fluri\nTrack

SUMMARY:Reactive ❤️ Loom: A Forbidden Love Story
DESCRIPTION:For years\, the Java community has been told that Project Loom
would kill reactive programming — that blocking and async were destined

SUMMARY:Data Integrity 2.0. The biggest advancement in data quality in 30 y

DESCRIPTION:At various times over the past 30 years\, most relational datab
ase platforms have implemented the core components of declarative data int
egrity - primary keys\, uniqueness\, check constraints and foreign keys. W
hist these remain a critical part of the database\, the real-life business

SUMMARY:Reversible Decisions for Better Software Design
DESCRIPTION:The longer a project is ongoing\, the more software development
slows down\; The reason for this is that the architecture and design of t

SUMMARY:What’s So Bad About Cardinality Anyway? Rethinking Metrics in the
  Modern Observability Ecosystem
DESCRIPTION:For years\, observability teams have warned developers to avoid
high-cardinality metrics. We treat cardinality like a natural disaster ra

inherent limits\, but from historical constraints baked into early metric

use intentionally.Rather than asking how to stop cardinality\, we’ll as

SUMMARY: Model Context Protocol (MCP): The future of user interactions?
DESCRIPTION:What if your users never visit your website again - and that&#3
9\;s a good thing? As AI assistants become the primary interface for digit
al tasks\, applications need a new way to be discovered and used. Enter th
e Model Context Protocol. The Model Context Protocol (MCP and MCP-UI) migh
t be the next revolution in &quot\;UI-programming&quot\;. It might be the
connecting link between the AI-hype and frontend programming. The Model Co
ntext Protocol standardizes how AI can interact with external services\, d
ata\, and tools.MCP is currently generating significant excitement in the
ecosystem of AI-assisted software development (Claude Code\, Copilot\, Cur
sor\, etc.). However\, this presentation highlights the much greater poten
tial of MCP: in a future world\, MCP could make any applications and servi
ces accessible to any AI assistant. The AI assistant could thus take on the
role of today&#39\;s browser: instead of interacting with web servers via
the browser\, future users could interact with MCP servers via their AI-a
ssistant. MCP is still in its infancy but is developing very rapidly. In th
is presentation\, we will use concrete code examples to look at how MCP wo
rks and what possibilities already exist today for implementing an interfa
ce to an application via MCP. And we will dive into MCP-UI\, an emerging p
rotocol to build rich\, dynamic interfaces for agentic apps. This talk is i
deal for full-stack developers and engineering leaders interested in prepa
ring their applications for an AI-first future.\nSpeakers: Jonas Bandi\nTr

SUMMARY:Spring Boot Test - A look behind the curtain
DESCRIPTION:“Testing in Spring Boot applications is easy\, just use @Spri
ngBootTest and you&#39\;re done.” What sounds so simple in theory\, ofte
n looks like magic and sometimes causes problems later on.Therefore\, in t
his session\, we will take a look behind the curtain to gain better insigh
t into how all of this actually works. Besides that\, we will touch on top

SUMMARY:The Hidden Security Hazards in Your Java Stack
DESCRIPTION:Building cloud-native Java apps feels smooth. You move fast\, c
ode freely\, and ship often. But that same vibe coding mindset can open th
e door to serious security problems. Copying code from the internet or tru
sting your AI assistant too much can introduce unsafe logic. Adding librar
ies without checking them and running container images you did not build c
an silently expose your application to attacks. In this session\, you will
see how modern Java stacks become vulnerable through real-world examples a

SUMMARY:Aspects of Continuous Deployment – A Multi-Dimensional View
DESCRIPTION:We look at the topic of Continuous Deployment (CD) from two ang
les:The technical view of a software architect and the human view of an ag
ile coach. Using the example of the Swiss Post’s parcel sorting system w
e share what we have learned. Yes\, we consider it a business-critical sof
tware\, with 10 deployments per day. In this talk\, we show how we build s
ystems that are fast\, reliable\, and high quality\, and explain why succe
ss depends so much on how teams experience a culture of trust\, collaborat
ion\, and shared responsibility for quality. We illustrate how technology
and a strong quality culture work hand in hand to make CD successful even
in risky environments. The two perspectives don’t always agree\, but that
